Spotlight on the South Coast Paradise all year round! Take the Southern Explorer and wind through a tropical paradise as you pass by Scottburgh, Port Shepstone, Uvongo, Margate and Port Edward before crossing the river to the wilderness of the Eastern Cape. Beach Side Restaurants Mariners Seafood Restaurant & Shipwreck Pub - Marina Beach This secluded spot is right on the edge of the beach. Choose any of their delicious seafood dishes, or just enjoy a drink at the cute and cosy Shipwreck Pub. Mariners Seafood Restaurant & Shipwreck Pub Blue Lagoon Restaurant – Ramsgate Take the stairs to the wooden deck and enjoy beautiful views over the beach and the river – spoil yourself with the calamari basket for a mid-day snack. 2. For the Adventurous Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve Oribi Gorge is an adventure hub for young and old! The Reserve lies 21 kilometres inland of Port Shepstone. Paintball, horse riding, abseiling, white water rafting, birding and hiking are among the activities on offer. Live on the wild side and see the best of what this 24km long gorge with its cliffs, forests, rivers, rapids and ravines has to offer! Oribi Gorge Umtamvuna Nature Reserve Drive towards the Beacon Hill entrance (northern entrance) – the views alone will have you rush to get started on any one of the beautiful trails on offer. Choose from 2km/4km/8km distances. Alternatively, you can also start at the Southern entrance – these are not as steep and don't involve climbing up and down the steep rocky cliffs that border the river. Make sure you check the duration of trails, as the terrain might slow you down a bit! (Remember to bring your own water) 3. Great Beaches Uvongo Beach Uvongo Beach is situated in a sheltered bay below beautiful rocky cliffs, with a waterfall that plunges into the lagoon. Ideal for kids to play in the rock pools and shallow waters of the lagoon, and also a popular surfing spot. Sit back in your beach chair and soak up the rays as you enjoy a delicious ice cream cone from the café – convenient for re-filling on snacks all day! A swimming pool and tidal pool next to the beach means kids can play and splash all day long- or if you're not one for waves, you can relax in more tranquil waters… Uvongo Beach Ramsgate This blue flag beach offers an escape from the bustling holiday town, and is perfectly situated next to The Waffle House – bonus! Launching facilities for ski boats makes this a popular spot for water lovers of all shapes and sizes! Marina Beach Nestled between San Lameer and Southbroom, this long stretch of beach offers its own tidal pool and blue flag status. A calm nook in this busy stretch of coastline – perfect for long walks on the sandy beach, fishing and swimming. 4. Night Life The Dolphin - Glenmore Beach Experience true South Coast hospitality at this pool bar and restaurant with a view over Glenmore from the deck, and delicious Nachos! A modern day jukebox offers hits from way back when and makes for a great night out with friends of all ages. Bootleggerz – Port Edward Live music and delicious Alfredo pasta are just two of the things that make Bootleggerz a lively after-hours spot in the usually sleepy town of Port Edward. 5. Fine Dining Trattoria La Terrazza - Southbroom Charmingly tucked away on the river's edge, this Italian restaurant is unpretentious, classic, quality. From the sunset setting, wine selection, starters through to desserts expect delicious Italian! Be sure to make a reservation as this one is yummy. Trattoria La Terrazza Casa Toscana - Trafalgar Ask any one of the locals for the best fine dining spot on the South Coast and they'll undoubtedly refer you to Casa Toscana. Dine in this stone villa overlooking the Mpenjati lagoon and soak up the Tuscan influence – fresh, seasonal ingredients, all kinds of pasta –made fresh of course, pyramids of eclairs and a fantastic view over the ocean.
