2. For the Adventurous
Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve
Oribi Gorge is an adventure hub for young and old! The Reserve lies 21 kilometres inland of Port Shepstone. Paintball, horse riding, abseiling, white water rafting, birding and hiking are among the activities on offer. Live on the wild side and see the best of what this 24km long gorge with its cliffs, forests, rivers, rapids and ravines has to offer!
Umtamvuna Nature Reserve
Drive towards the Beacon Hill entrance (northern entrance) – the views alone will have you rush to get started on any one of the beautiful trails on offer. Choose from 2km/4km/8km distances. Alternatively, you can also start at the Southern entrance – these are not as steep and don't involve climbing up and down the steep rocky cliffs that border the river. Make sure you check the duration of trails, as the terrain might slow you down a bit! (Remember to bring your own water)
3. Great Beaches
Uvongo Beach is situated in a sheltered bay below beautiful rocky cliffs, with a waterfall that plunges into the lagoon. Ideal for kids to play in the rock pools and shallow waters of the lagoon, and also a popular surfing spot. Sit back in your beach chair and soak up the rays as you enjoy a delicious ice cream cone from the café – convenient for re-filling on snacks all day! A swimming pool and tidal pool next to the beach means kids can play and splash all day long- or if you're not one for waves, you can relax in more tranquil waters…
This blue flag beach offers an escape from the bustling holiday town, and is perfectly situated next to The Waffle House – bonus! Launching facilities for ski boats makes this a popular spot for water lovers of all shapes and sizes!
